ENTE DA FARE
Giuseppe Buzzotta e Vincenzo Schillaci
We are pleased to present the inaugural exhibition of the 2013-14 season of Cripta747, space for research and a cultural center for the arts in Turin.
Operating from 2008 in the Umberto I gallery in Porta Palazzo, our activities have now been moved to the basement of the Franco Noero Gallery โ whose access is in via Regaldi 00, in the Barriera/Monumental Cemetery neighborhood โ for the realization of a seasonal project. The first event in the new working space is Ente da fare, a double solo show by the Palermitan artists Giuseppe Buzzotta and Vincenzo Schillaci.
Ente da fare develops the open potential of the restorative and decorative techniques. On view, there are five big painted boards, signs of a reflection on images and on their fruition. By studying the conservative and restorative treatments for musical instruments, Giuseppe Buzzotta fixes on paintings the gestures and lines evoking notes and sound, lying in coats of sealing wax. The same practice of stratification is at the core of Vincenzo Schillaciโs works; by overlapping the matter, the wooden boards are transformed into marbled figures, underlining the passage of time between the first and the last layer.
The artworks are the result of a careful consideration on the practice of making images and conceiving them. It is an analysis around the fruition and the modern use of images, as they are brought back to a sort of โsacrednessโ. In Vincenzo Schillaciโs Shells, wastes coming from the mold of a plaster casts gallery strengthen and embellish their โshellsโ in order to restore attention to their hidden signs.
